Rats in the Kitchen
It can be a real shock and quite frightening to see a rat on your kitchen work surfaces. We had a call late on a Thursday evening, as this is exactly what happened to the tenant of a rental property in Leamington Spa. She walked into her kitchen just in time to see a rat running across the kitchen units.
Although we deal with rat infestations and sightings every day, we understand that seeing a live rat in your kitchen is unexpected and can leave some people feeling very vulnerable. With this in mind we put it through as an emergency call out, and had a pest control technician there within the hour.

On arrival there was no obvious sign of the rat, however we understood our client’s distress so on more thorough investigations our technician was able to locate the rat hiding behind some units:
The rat was quickly dispatched, however we know that if one rat is seen there is a high probability there are more rats living in the same location, as they tend to live in family groups. The landlord requested additional evidence of a rat infestation before authorising a full rat control program, so we placed a movement sensitive camera in the kitchen. This is the result:
It is clear from the video that rats were living inside the house, and a thorough rat pest control and extermination program was then implemented straight away. A good result for the tenant who we were able to support throughout the process, and a good result for the landlord who was fully informed and clear on the extent of the rat infestation before committing to additional work. We were able to effectively remove all the rats from the property within 7 days of the control program starting.
