• Article 14 of Regulation (EC) 178/8002: ‘It is an offence not to comply under the General Food Regulations 2004.’ These include pest control.
• Regulation (EC) 852/2004 states: Food premises are to ‘permit good food hygiene practices including protection against contamination and in particular, pest control. Adequate procedures should be in place to control pests.’
• HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point): Pest control forms a part of GMP (Good Management Practices) for food businesses, a pre-requisite to HACCP procedures.  Pest control should be carried out with ‘due diligence and proper documentation’ using a professional pest control company.

These can take place at any time and be routine or follow a complaint. Inspectors do not have to make an appointment and usually come without notice. They can check the premises, how you work and food safety management including pest control procedures and records.
