How do you know when to use professional pest control services?
When you discover a rodent or insect infestation in your home, it’s very tempting to try to get rid of rats and mice, or insects such as fleas and wasps, yourself. However, is it cheaper and easier to get rid of pests yourself, or better in the long run to use professional pest control?
We know the answer! Most of the time it is always safer, easier, quicker and often cheaper to use professional pest control services. However, we understand the temptation to try to get rid of fleas, mice or rats yourself before calling a rat or flea pest control service provider. Usually people try to get rid of rats and mice, or insects such as fleas and bedbugs, themselves as it feels like it’s going to be cheaper. Why pay for a pest control service, when you can do the same job yourself for less money?
The answer: because professional pest control works.
We take calls for flea pest control nearly every day, and virtually every customer we speak with has been trying to get rid of the fleas themselves – usually using flea smoke bombs, powders and sprays. Often people feel like they have tried everything, but they still have fleas in the house.
The key with flea extermination and finishing a flea infestation is ending the flea lifecycle. Professional flea pest control services will use a residual flea insecticide which needs to stay in place for 21 days after the initial flea extermination process. Flea eggs that hatch after the flea pest control treatment, will touch the residual product and this will finish the emerging fleas. This breaks the flea life cycle and stops the flea infestation. In the long run it’s quicker, easier and overall cheaper to use professional flea pest control in the first place.
The same is true for rat or mouse infestations. People regularly call us who have been trying to get rid of rats or mice themselves. Sometimes by the time they get in touch, they have started seeing rats in the kitchen or can hear mice in the house at night moving around in the walls and ceilings.
Professional mouse or rat pest control services will use a licensed grade rat or mouse bait that is unavailable over the counter. Rats and mice are becoming more and more immune to off the shelf bought baits, and for effective rodent extermination professional grade products are needed. Again, it’s quicker, easier and in the long run cheaper, to hand over to professional rodent pest control from the start.
