Drain Survey and Rat Prevention – Coventry
Repeated Rat Infestations
A client approached us after trying to get rid of rats from their Coventry home at least four times in a two-year period. Each time the process began when they heard something moving around in their attic during the night, as well as scratching and gnawing noises coming from the loft. Each time they called pest control and employed professional rat pest control services to exterminate the rats.
The pest control was always successful after a few visits, and the rats seemed to finish. However, a few months later our client found they had yet another rat infestation. After two years of dealing with repeated rat infestations, the client got in touch with us.
The Solution: Drain Surveys and Rat Prevention
After speaking with the client, it was obvious that repeated rat infestations had become a real problem. They needed a permanent solution to stop the rats coming back, as well as a rat pest control program.
It’s common for rats to travel using drainage systems and they will often go from drains into house wall cavities and then climb up into roof spaces, particularly when it’s cold or very wet weather. We used cameras to check the drains for damage and signs of rats, and sure enough this video shows a hole that rats were using:
Rats would then leave the drains during the Winter months, travelling into the house wall cavities and up into the loft.
It was essential to find out how the rats were getting into our client’s home, otherwise the problem would just keep happening as new rats started using the existing rat holes. Once we had exterminated the existing rat infestation, and established how the rats were getting into the house, we fitted a rat drain gate.
This rat-prevention step has so far been successful and seems to be keeping our client’s Coventry home rat-free. This is a far better and more cost-effective result than continued rat control programs.
