Squirrels are not always seen as a pest, but grey squirrels are not native to the UK and if they are causing a problem the law is that they should be exterminated.
Squirrels in your roof or attic will cause significant damage, and will also nest and breed in your loft, becoming an increasing problem. A squirrel infestation is usually quite obvious, as you will see squirrels going in and out of your roof. They are also noisy, so you will hear noises in your loft. Squirrels a most active at dawn and dusk so if you are hearing noise in your attic at these times it can mean you have a squirrel infestation. Noises during the night are more likely to be a sign of a rat or mouse infestation.
If you need to get rid of squirrels from your loft or roof space, then we recommend a squirrel pest control program. This means a minimum of two visits. During visit one we will set humane traps and instal CCTV cameras in your attic. This way we can see the level of squirrel infestation, and monitor the traps continually. If a squirrel is caught, then we know straight away and can arrange to return to your property. We will also know how many squirrels are living in your roof space, so can gauge the level of squirrel control as required.
During visit one we will also asses and squirrel proofing or squirrel prevention steps that will help to prevent a repeat squirrel infestation in the future. We can advise only, or provide a quote to do the work for you.
Visit two involves either removing any squirrels as needed, and either resetting the traps, or removing all the equipment if we know from the CCTV that the squirrel infestation is finished. If further visits are necessary then we charge on a per visit basis so you only pay for what you need. The CCTV monitoring also makes sure that we can keep visits, and subsequently the cost, to a minimum for you.
Once the squirrel extermination is completed we strongly recommend the squirrel proofing recommendations are then carried out, to avoid repeated squirrel infestations and more pest control costs.
Most good pest control companies should offer a squirrel pest control service, although costs can vary significantly. It is always worth using a pest control company that has a CCTV monitoring system during squirrel control, as this saves on the number of visits needed and means that the client (you) do not have to be responsible for checking the traps at any time – which some pest control companies may ask you to do.
