The common insects that need pest control are fleas, carpet moth and carpet beetle, bedbugs and wasps or hornets. Some of the lesser known insects requiring pest control are mites, other types of beetle such as biscuit beetles and weevils, however the more common insect pest control services are outlined below:
Wasps and hornets are active June through to September each year, however removing empty or dormant wasps nests is still required in the winter. A dormant wasps nest is not a danger in itself, but can attract bird mites. It can also cause issues during a house sale, and a house survey will usually pick up on a dormant wasps nest and request it is removed before completion. Wasp pest control generally involves spraying the nest with a wasp insecticide. Pest control services use licensed wasp extermination products, these are unavailable in the shops or over the counter, so highly effective.
Fleas infestations are commonly associated with dogs and cats. They can be difficult to exterminate, and flea pest control usually involves leaving a residual insecticide in place for 21 days. Any flea eggs that hatch after the flea pest control will touch the insecticide and die off, which breaks the flea life cycle and ends the flea infestation. Getting rid of fleas yourself can be difficult, as breaking the life cycle is key. Treating pets for fleas at the same time as the extermination program is important also.
Carpet moth or carpet beetle pest control services are similar to the flea pest control process. Again, a residual insecticide is used, and this needs time to dry, so no one or pets can be in the house during the process or for six hours after. Once dry it is licensed as safe, and it’s a case of no vacuuming for 21 days while the life cycle of the moths or carpet beetles is broken.
Bedbug pest control is a more in depth process, as bedbugs hide in tiny cracks and crevices around your home, including plug sockets and behind skirting if there is a gap. Preparation for bedbug pest control includes vacuuming all floors, washing bedding and infested clothing at 60 degrees, and clearing small items off the floor such as books or shoes. A very thorough bedbug treatment is best, using a mix of heat and freeze bedbug pest control measures, as well as bedbug insecticides. Ideally use a pest control company that offers a two visit bedbug pest control program as this will be more successful as a rule.
