When mice move into your house, they can cause expensive and potentially dangerous damage to your property. Chewed electrical wires are a potential and serious fire risk. If mice chew wires in your home, there is a good chance you will need to pay an electrician to replace the rodent damaged wiring. Rodent damaged wires need to be taken seriously and replaced as needed.
With this in mind, if you have a mouse infestation or you find mice in your house, then it is well worth investing in mouse pest control. There are some DIY mouse bait and boxes you can buy off they shelf which may work. However, we often get calls from customers who have tried to get rid of mice themselves. After spending money on cheap mouse control, they still have a mouse infestation some weeks or even months later, and the mice are breeding so growing in number.
When a mouse infestation gets worse, the mice will start to travel around your house. Initially you might just hear mice or rodent noise in your loft or attic. However, as the mice start moving around your home in search of food, you will notice signs of mice in your kitchen. Mice will travel inside wall cavities so it can take time before you see any live mice – and if you see live mice in your house then the mouse problem is most likely well advanced.
As well as causing rodent damage to your home or property, mice carry disease. If you touch food that has been contaminated by a mouse infestation, then there is risk of rodent disease. In addition to keep food in rodent proof containers, cleaning thoroughly and washing hands routinely, professional mouse or rodent pest control is recommended before a mouse problem gets to this stage.
A reputable pest control company should offer a rodent or mouse pest control service. Usually a minimum of two visits will be required as minimum. During the first mouse pest control visit a full and thorough rodent survey should be carried out so your pest control technician will know where the mice are coming from, where they are nesting and the rodent pathways or routes they are using to travel around your home.
The mouse pest control should then start on the same day, with mouse bait being placed safely around your home as needed. Licensed professional pest control services will use licensed rodent or mouse baits only. These licensed mouse baits are extremely effective, and operators should be insured as well as qualified and trained in their safe handling and appropriate use.
A second mouse pest control visit should follow a week later, and hopefully at this point your pest control operative should find no further signs of live mouse activity and be able to sign off. If it is a serious mouse infestation however, subsequent visits may be needed. A good pest controller will keep pest control visits to a minimum for you.
Your pest control service should also be able to offer you advice or quote for mouse proofing and advise on ways to stop mice getting into your house. It is a good idea to use mouse prevention where possible, as it will help to stop mice getting into your house in the future.
