What insects cause red, itchy bites?
Insects in the house are common, however only some insects need insect pest control, and even fewer insects bite people. There are two main insects that bite people in the home and need pest control to remove them, and these are fleas and bedbugs.
Flea Pest Control
Fleas normally live on cats or dogs, however will also bite people. Flea bites are red raised lumps and can get very itchy. If you are being bitten by fleas you will usually see the live fleas jumping. Fleas a small, dark brown and crawling insects, however they will jump quite far so are usually easy to recognise. If your dog or cat has fleas then the fleas will start laying eggs in your house, and when a flea infestation gets more advanced, the fleas will start using people as a food source.
Fleas can come into your house on other hosts, such as rats, and professional flea pest control is the only realistic way to get rid of fleas once a flea infestation is established. Professional flea pest control services will use an insecticide that remains on soft furnishings for up to 21 days, and this will kill off any newly hatched fleas from eggs laid in your home. Flea pest control will break the flea life cycle, which off the shelf flea products might not do, and so using professional pest control services ensures the flea infestation will end.
Bedbug Pest Control
Bedbugs travel on clothing, furniture and in luggage. They can arrive in your house on any item that has been in a property with a bedbug infestation. Bedbugs are small, flat, round crawling insects. They hide during the day, and come out at night to feed on humans when they are sleeping. For this reason they can take time to spot, however you will start to notice bedbug bites first. Bedbug bites are common on the legs and torso, and can also leave blood spots on the bedsheets.
Bedbug pest control is the only realistic solution when you need to get rid of bedbugs. It is also worth using a very reputable pest control company with a thorough bedbug pest control program. Ideally a two visit bedbug pest control program is best, with the first visit being an extremely thorough bedbug treatment throughout the whole property, following up with a re-spray of insecticide 21 days later.
